Statement

I represent the harmonious beauty that occurs between the juxtaposition of conflicting meanings. I create sculptures, drawings, and installations. I use in my works a variety of materials and visual languages, but my methodology is consistent. Through my childhood memories of natural landscapes, death in my family, the ambiguity of Japanese culture, and my six and a half-year in Germany, I interpret and explore the forms and structures of nature, birth and death, and of course international cultural exchange. The surface of my works, created with a sculptural approach that is conscious of action and materials, such as organic and inorganic, concave and convex, ground and figure emerge at the same time.

The double structure of my work, which moves back and forth between conflicting elements, takes the viewer on a journey of contemplation. My work can also be understood as a metaphor for the harmonious beauty of natural diversity, and even cultural diversity in modern society. The beauty of “Cosmos (Order and harmony in the system)” is also the beauty found within the relationships and events in the world. This image of beauty vibrating something like “life” has become an important motif in my work.
