「Coil 1999」と同年に制作された、木と荒縄による初期の大型彫刻作品です。幼少期に遊んだ田んぼの風景や、父親が育てた稲穂から作られた荒縄という素材への深い結びつきから誕生しました。荒縄で緊縛された無数の木のユニットが集積し、強固で有機的なひとつの塊を形成する姿は、「部分は全体を成す」という自然界のフラクタルな構造を体現しています。タイトルの「礎（Foundation）」が示す通り、自然の表裏一体の関係性を見つめ、現在の「Grid Animism」へと至る思索の強靭な土台となった重要な作品です。
Created in the same year as Coil 1999, this early large-scale sculpture is constructed from wood and rough straw rope. The work is deeply rooted in childhood memories of playing in local rice fields and a strong connection to the rough straw rope crafted from rice ears grown by my father.The dense accumulation of countless wood units bound by rope forms a single, solid, and organic mass, embodying the fractal structure of nature where “the part forms the whole.” As the title Foundation suggests, observing the inseparable, dualistic relationships of the natural world laid the robust groundwork for my current philosophy of “Grid Animism.”
