This sculpture extracts the aspect of “Animism” (the will and generation of nature) from Takayuki Daikoku’s theory of “Grid Animism.”
“Node” signifies a junction or point of intersection. Each pillar, carved from solid cherry wood, directly encapsulates the “will of nature”—the inherent resistance and warping of the wood fibers. As these pillars cluster and stand together, the space transforms into a Kekkai (a sacred boundary), evoking an ancient forest or a temple colonnade.
Dead matter (Gofun, crushed seashell pigment) settles onto the skeleton of another organic body (cherry wood), beginning to breathe anew as its skin. Confronting these nine pillars is not merely a visual experience; it subconsciously causes the viewer’s own physical body (bones) to resonate with the work, awakening ancient memories of life. It acts as a device that shakes our physical senses—which have become diluted in today’s digital society—drawing us into the primordial murmur of life.
