ABOUT
『Grid Animism』
近代合理主義の象徴であるグリッドと、生命が生まれる「前兆」を宿した未成のアニミズム的フォルム 。私は彫刻という身体的行為を通じて、人為的な思考の構築と素材に宿る根源的な生命力を、ひとつの木塊の中で習合させる 。彫刻は空間を静謐な結界へと変容させ、見えざる生命の気配を循環させる器であり、二つの世界を繋ぐバランサーである 。
The grid, a symbol of modern rationalism, alongside unformed animistic shapes imbued with the premonition of emerging life. Through the physical act of sculpting, I synthesize the artificial constructs of human thought with the primordial life force inherent in the material, uniting them within a single block of wood. The sculpture transforms space into a tranquil kekkai (sacred boundary); it becomes a vessel that circulates the invisible presence of life, and a balancer connecting these two distinct worlds.
大黒 貴之（DAIKOKU Takayuki） 彫刻家。1976年滋賀県生まれ。
大阪芸術大学大学院修了後、約6年半にわたりドイツ（ベルリン、ブランデンブルク州）を拠点に活動。現在は日本を拠点に、楠や欅などの無垢材から構造を彫り出す「一木造り」の木彫を主軸に制作を行っている。自身の制作理論として「Grid Animism（グリッド・アニミズム）」を提唱。近代合理主義（グリッド）と人の自然観（アニミズム）をひとつの木塊のなかで習合させる表現を追求している。胡粉や墨、膠といった伝統素材によって仕上げられるその彫刻は、空間を静謐な結界へと変容させる器として機能する。
これまでに国内外のギャラリーや美術館で多数の展示を重ねるほか、ドイツのヴァーゲニッツ自然公園（2015）、米国テキサス州ダラスの私邸（2020）、京都のKYOTOWAND（2022）など、公共空間や個人邸宅へのコミッションワークを手がける。2026年には福岡県飯塚市でのアーティストインレジデンスにて高さ2.5mの楠の一木造りによる大型作品の制作を行うほか、国際芸術研究誌『Journal for Artistic Research（JAR）』で学術論文の提出（現在査読中）など、理論と実践の両面から彫刻の可能性を拡張し続けている。
After completing his graduate studies at the Osaka University of Arts, he was based in Germany (Berlin and Brandenburg) for approximately six and a half years. Currently based in Japan, his practice centers on woodcarving using the ichiboku-zukuri (single-block carving) technique, carving structures from solid woods such as camphor and zelkova. He advocates his original art theory, \"Grid Animism,\" pursuing an expression that synthesizes modern rationalism (the grid) with the human view of nature (animism) within a single block of wood. Finished with traditional materials such as gofun (shell white), sumi ink, and nikawa (animal glue), his sculptures function as vessels that transform space into a tranquil kekkai (sacred boundary).
In addition to numerous exhibitions at galleries and museums both domestically and internationally, he has undertaken commission works for public spaces and private residences, including Schlosspark Wagenitz in Germany (2015), a private residence in Dallas, Texas, USA (2020), and KYOTOWAND in Kyoto, Japan (2022). In 2026, he created a 2.5-meter-tall large-scale work carved from a single block of camphor wood during an artist-in-residence program in Iizuka City, Fukuoka. Furthermore, with an academic paper submitted to the Journal for Artistic Research (JAR) (currently under peer review), he continues to expand the possibilities of sculpture through both rigorous theory and physical practice.
